When I first signed up to work at life camp I thought it was a day care. My first day had me in for a pleasant surprise. The orange walls grasped my attention and I learned that they were actually an anti gun violence organization. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed going to events such as speaking at the hearing for Indian point or remembering Nelson Mandela at the boys and girls school. It was truly a spontaneous experience from going to yoga and clearing my mind and body to sitting around the conference table discussing ideas. Life camp made my summer worthwhile and I will be visiting soon.

Hey Readers, this is Obafemi. Today is my last day at LIFE Camp, I have had a very good experience with this organization and I have enjoyed the work that we have done in the cause for spreading peace as a lifestyle. LIFE Camp has been a place of encouragement to me in developing and keeping an open mind and heart to community problems and solutions, specifically regarding to violence. I have witnessed the work of LIFE Camp’s aims and purpose and am glad to say that they are of great impact and influence to the community. My favorite experience with LIFE Camp was the exposure that I got to do yoga through this program; it was very enlightening and a perfect incorporation of a peaceful lifestyle. Though today is my last day at LIFE Camp for the summer, it will not be my last day living and encouraging Peace as a Lifestyle!

“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.” My six weeks of summer employment at Life Camp was of great interest. It was not to my expectation but I can leave saying I learnt a lot. Before coming to Life campus my awareness to violence, more in specific gun violence left a lot to desire. As an aspiring Medical Doctor I consider violence a socially infectious disease that is desperately in need of a cure.
In addition, my summer at Life Camp was eye opening since I represented this organization at many social events. This made me get to learn about how brutal innocent lives are taken on a daily basis in New York. As a new resident of this country my heart ached when I heard about some of the homicides that took place within the past year in New York City.
The killing of Ezel Ford struck me the most since he had mental problem and complaints. In my opinion every human being has a conscious and a sub conscious mind. So when someone is “Mentally ill” they are in there sub conscious mind, hence not fully responsible of their action. This should be taken into consideration when dealing with conflicts that involved persons with mental problems and complaints.
In conclusion I would like to say I am in favor of the work Life Camp Inc has done thus far. As I am leaving I would like to wish them success in curing violence and with the help of the Almighty I know that would be possible. My word of advice to my fellow peers is MIND UP!!! because “An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.”
PEACE! PEACE! PEACE!

This summer, I have spent six weeks working at Life Camp. I've enjoyed my time here. We attended a lot of events. We contributed to the launch of this organization's social media networks. I have made friends here and I met many kind people. This organization participates in many events to stop violence and promote peace.
